Jim Ayres

Company Principal

Jim completed a BA in Psychology and a MSc in Animal Behaviour at Exeter University, before joining BT as a Product Manager, analysing the financial viability of telecoms projects.

With both a father and a brother already working as mortgage brokers, however, Jim soon accepted his calling! He independently financed and studied his way through the qualifications required to give mortgage advice before joining The Mulberry Mortgage Company in 2007. Jim became the company Principal in 2010.

Away from the office, Jim’s interests include walking, football (he is a Plymouth Argyle season ticket-holder, for his sins), rail history and film.

Richard Ayres

Company Founder

Now retired, Richard was a mortgage consultant for 12 years, during which time he advised about 3000 different clients. He holds the Financial Planning Certificate of the Chartered Insurance Institute and the Certificate in Mortgage Advice and Practice of the Institute of Financial Services. Richard came to Financial Services later in life, after a career as a senior manager in the brewing and later petroleum industries.

Richard founded and became Chairman of a local investment club, and plays bridge. Many years ago he took a history degree and has recently rekindled that interest, by returning to university to do a part-time masters degree in historical research.

He still struggles with the fact that both his sons became mortgage brokers, since throughout their lives they have strenuously avoided emulating him in all other respects.

In his retirement, Richard now enjoys a carefree existence by the sea in sunny Plymouth with his wife Eleanor. He continues his interest in historical research.
